The New York Yankees announced that they have acquired LHP Victor González and INF Jorbit Vivas from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for INF Trey Sweeney.
González, 28, went 3-3 with a 4.01 ERA (33.2IP, 27H, 15R/ER, 10BB, 30K, 2HR) in 34 appearances (one start) with the Dodgers in 2023. The left-handed pitcher held opponents to a .223/.296/.331 (27-for-121) slash line and did not allow a run in 27 of his 34 appearances with the Dodgers. González also made 20 relief appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 2-1 with one save and a 5.40 ERA (20.0IP, 16H, 14R/12ER, 16BB, 22K, 0HR).
Over three Major League seasons with the Dodgers (2020-21, ‘23), González has gone 9-4 with one save and a 3.22 ERA (89.1IP, 72H, 32R/ER, 31BB, 86K, 5HR) in 93 games (three starts). He has held opponents to a .221/.304/.313 (72-for-326) slash line. The Tuxpan, Mexico, native was originally signed by Los Angeles-NL as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2012.
Vivas, 22, combined with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City to bat .269 (136-for-506) with 98R, 25 doubles, 3 triples, 13HR, 63RBI, 69BB and 25SB in 135 games in 2023. The infielder played 120 games/starts at second base and 12 games/starts at third base this past season. Vivas ranked second among Dodgers farmhands in 2023 in runs scored and hits, tied for fourth in stolen bases and ranked fifth in total bases (206). Over parts of five minor league seasons in the Dodgers organization (2018-19, ’21-23), the left-handed hitter has batted .281 (498-for-1,773) with 320R, 98 doubles, 18 triples, 39HR, 259RBI, 217BB and 61SB in 474 career games. The Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, native was originally signed by the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent on July 4, 2017.
Sweeney, 23, batted .252/.367/.411 (100-for-397) with 67R, 20 doubles, 2 triples, 13HR, 49RBI, 65BB and 20SB in 100 games with Double-A Somerset in 2023. The left-handed batter has hit .248/.361/.429 (234-for-945) with 173R, 43 doubles, 10 triples, 36HR, 119RBI, 153BB and 55SB in 243 career minor league games over three seasons in the Yankees organization (2021-23). The Louisville, Ky., native was selected by the Yankees in the first round (20th overall) of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Eastern Illinois University.
