Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo will have surgery to repair a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, the team announced Thursday.
The injury occurred during the second quarter of Indiana's 110-106 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. Oladipo's leg bent awkwardly as he fell to the floor trying to disrupt an outlet pass to the Raptors' Pascal Siakam and he left the court on a stretcher.
An MRI on Thursday revealed the extent of the damage.
Through 36 games this season, Oladipo was averaging 18.8 points per game and on pace to set career highs in rebounding (5.6) and assists (5.2).
Oladipo, 26, made the All-Star team and led the NBA with 2.4 steals per game in his first season with the Pacers in 2017-18. He was named the NBA's Most Improved Player and made the league's All-Defensive First Team.
Oladipo played three seasons with the Orlando Magic and one with the Oklahoma City Thunder before being dealt to the Pacers in the Paul George trade on July 6, 2017.
It is a tough blow for the Pacers (32-15), who have won five of their last six games and stand third in the Eastern Conference entering Saturday's road game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
