John Sterling celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4, and given that he hasn't missed so much as a single inning during his 30-year tenure as a Yankees radio broadcaster, it is no surprise that he spent his special day at Yankee Stadium announcing the Yankees-Braves game.
The Yankees didn't hesitate to show their appreciation for Sterling's dedication to the team, putting together a small birthday celebration for him before the game commenced.
Later, during the game, YES Network's Michael Kay took it upon himself to give Sterling a birthday tribute, recreating John's rendition of Giancarlo Stanton's home run call when Stanton blasted a three-run home run - because, after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
However, perhaps the best birthday present of all was the Yankees taking a 6-2 victory over the Braves, making Sterling's birthday broadcast totally worth it.
