Former New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez has agreed to a minor league deal with the Mets, Joel Sherman of the NY Post reported Tuesday.

Sanchez, 30, began the 2023 season with the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A affiliate, but was recently released after 16 games with the Sacramento River Cats.

The two-time All-Star was traded along with infielder Gio Urshela from the Yankees to Minnesota back in March 2022 in exchange for veteran infielders Josh Donaldson, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and catcher Ben Rortvedt.

Sanchez has appeared in 666 MLB games over parts of eight seasons, compiling a career slash line of .225/.311/.467 with 154 career home runs and 401 RBI. He finished runner-up for Rookie of the Year in 2016 and won the Silver Slugger Award the following season.

"The Kraken" will look for his next big-league opportunity back in the Big Apple under Mets general manager Billy Eppler, who was previously a member of the Yankees front office during Sanchez's early-career development in the Bronx.
