BROOKLYN – Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Dariq Whitehead underwent successful surgery today to address the stress reaction in his left shin. The procedure was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery. With an expected recovery period of approximately three months, Whitehead will miss the remainder of the season; however, he is expected to make a complete recovery and be a full participant in the team’s offseason development program.
Whitehead, the league’s second-youngest player, saw action in two games as a reserve with Brooklyn this season. The 19-year-old has also appeared in four regular season games (all starts) for Brooklyn’s NBA G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, averaging 8.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.6 minutes per contest.
