Soto Looking Sharp

Every trip to the plate Juan Soto makes during Spring Training increases the excitement Yankees fans have to see him in uniform when the games begin to count later this month! Soto’s acquisition from San Diego was one of the biggest storylines in baseball over the winter, and the 25-year-old superstar has been a great fit during Grapefruit League play, batting .375 and mashing four home runs in 24 at-bats. With a World Championship, a batting title and three All-Star nods already on his resume, Soto appears ready to add a new chapter to his burgeoning legacy.

Pinstriped Pulse

As Anthony Volpe looks to build on a season in which he became the first Yankees rookie in history to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases, the 22-year-old has made some adjustments to his swing that appear to be paying dividends in training camp! He’s batting .313 over 32 at-bats. Anthony Rizzo has also had a successful run in Tampa, hitting .480 in 25 at-bats with a couple of homers. On the mound, Luis Gil has opened eyes as his comeback from Tommy John surgery gains steam. After returning with a couple of appearances in the Minors last year, Gil has struck out 14 batters over 8.1 innings. Ian Hamilton has picked up right where he left off in 2023 when he evolved into a key piece of the Yanks’ bullpen after signing with the club on a minor league deal. Hamilton has tossed seven hitless frames over four appearances, striking out 11 batters along the way.

Spring Breakout 2024

Following a game between their organizations’ MLB clubs Saturday, Yankees and Blue Jays prospects will face each other as part of Spring Breakout 2024, a new four-day event showcasing the current stars of Minor League Baseball. A series of 16 exhibition games featuring top prospects will be played at Grapefruit League and Cactus League venues, creating a new touchpoint on the calendar that celebrates this sport’s budding talent. Three players ranked within MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospects will be on the Yankees’ roster: OF Spencer Jones, RHP Chase Hampton and SS Roderick Arias. It will be another opportunity to see Jones after the 6’6 22-year-old made a “big” impression in his first training camp this year.

Trip to Mexico

Shortly before they open their season in Houston, the Yankees will have a couple of split-squad days that are going to include games in Mexico! On Sunday, March 24 and Monday, March 25, while teammates are playing against the Pirates and Mets in Florida, members of the Yanks will be in Mexico for a pair of exhibition games against the Diablos Rojos del México at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City. It will be the Yanks’ first trip there since 1968 and the games will mark matchups between the teams that hold the most titles in their respective leagues - 27 for the Yankees and 16 for the Diablos Rojos in the Mexican Baseball League.
