The New York Liberty announced that the team has signed 2021 WNBA Champion center Stefanie Dolson. Per team policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Dolson, 30, joins the Liberty after her 2021 title campaign with the Chicago Sky where she averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per contest, while shooting 48.6% from the field, 40.4% from beyond the arc, and 94.7% at the free throw line.
“Stef is the definition of New York tough,” said General Manager Jonathan Kolb. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her back to her home state as an integral piece of the Liberty’s future success. She is an incredibly talented player, and her experience, toughness and size will only add to our front court.”
Dolson earned the first gold medal in Olympic 3×3 basketball history last summer in Tokyo while representing USA Basketball. She is the only player in the league to win both a gold medal and a WNBA Championship last season.
“Playing in New York is a dream come true,” said Dolson. “It feels like now is the perfect time in my career to join the Liberty organization as we set our sights on becoming perennial contenders.” Dolson added, “Knowing that I’ll have the support of my family and friends at Barclays Center makes this all the more special.”
A native of Port Jervis, New York, Stefanie was drafted sixth overall from UConn by the Washington Mystics in the 2014 WNBA Draft where she spent three seasons. Following a trade to Chicago in 2017, Dolson has played the past five seasons for the Sky where she totaled 133 games including 115 starts.
