Yankees to host baseball and softball championship games for Bronx youth program Summer Night Lights on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Yankee Stadium

The New York Yankees announced a special event to mark the culmination of the second-annual Summer Night Lights Program as Yankee Stadium will host its baseball and softball championship games on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Media are invited to attend both the baseball and softball championship games at 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively. Each game will begin with team introductions and will be followed by a postgame trophy presentation. Media may capture baseball B-roll and interviews.

This summer, approximately 300 Bronx children and teenagers, ages 12 to 18, took part in the initiative in which the Yankees partnered with the New York City Police Department’s (NYPD) Blue Chips Program, NYC Parks, the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD), SCAN-Harbor and Poland Spring® Spring Water to keep area young people engaged in recreation and character-promoting activities on summer evenings. The nighttime schedule was chosen to supplement the limited number of organized evening activities available to that age group during the summer. Additionally, by gathering youngsters from all areas of the Bronx, artificial and territorial boundaries can be shattered in a way that can bring communities together.
