The New York Yankees today announced that they have re-signed LHP Tim Hill to a Major League contract for the 2025 season with a club option for the 2026 season.

Hill’s 69.5 groundball percentage last season was the second-highest among Major League relievers (second in AL). Additionally, his 0.27 home runs per 9.0IP ranked third among left-handed relievers (second in AL) and his career-high 67.0 innings pitched ranked ninth (fourth in AL).

The left-handed pitcher began the 2024 season with Chicago-AL, going 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA (23.0IP, 41H, 19R/15ER, 10BB, 13K, 0HR) in 27 relief appearances. Hill was released by the White Sox on June 18, and he was then signed by the Yankees to a Major League contract and added to the active roster on June 20. Hill made 35 relief appearances with the Yankees, going 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA (44.0IP, 36H, 13R/10ER, 9BB, 18K, 2HR). He recorded four-or-more outs in 15 of his 35 relief appearances with the Yankees after only recording four such appearances in 27 games with the White Sox.

Since making his Yankees debut on June 20 through the end of the season, Hill ranked second among left-handed relievers (min. 30.0IP) in innings pitched (44.0, first in AL), fourth in ERA (2.05, third in AL), eighth in opponents’ slugging percentage (.281, fifth in AL), ninth in opponents’ OPS (.549, fifth in AL), and 10th in opponents’ on-base percentage (.267, seventh in AL) and WHIP (1.02, eighth in AL).

Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Kansas City Royals (2018-19), San Diego Padres (2020-23), Chicago White Sox (2024) and Yankees (2024), Hill has gone 20-14 with four saves and a 3.99 ERA (322.1IP, 326H, 176R/143ER, 103BB, 239K, 30HR) over 382 career relief appearances. Since 2018, his 28.9 inherited runners scored percentage ranks seventh among Major League relievers. Hill’s 382 relief appearances since 2018 are the fifth-most among left-handed relievers. He has also made at least 60 appearances in three seasons (70G in 2018 with Kansas City, 78G in 2021 with San Diego and 62G in 2024 with Chicago-AL/the Yankees).

Hill has appeared in the postseason three times in his career (2020 and ’22 with San Diego and 2024 with the Yankees), going 1-0 with a 0.68 ERA (13.1IP, 9H, 3R/1ER, 3BB, 8K, 0HR) in 16 relief appearances. Hill made 10 relief appearances with the Yankees in 2024, posting a 1.08 ERA (8.1IP, 7H, 2R/1ER, 2BB, 3K, 0HR).

The Mission Hills, Calif., native was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 32nd round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Bacone College (Okla.). He was acquired by San Diego in exchange for RHP Ronald Bolaños and OF Franchy Cordero on July 16, 2020. Hill signed a Major League contract with Chicago-AL on December 28, 2023.
