The New York Yankees have reportedly reached an agreement with free agent reliever Darren O’Day for one year and $2.45 million guaranteed pending a physical, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic.

As Joel Sherman of the New York Post broke down, O’Day will earn $1.75 million in 2021 with a $1.4 million player option for 2022 or a $700,000 buyout. Additionally, if O’Day declines the option, the Yankees can exercise a $3.15 million option for him.

With his side-arm motion, the 38-year-old right-hander has been a highly effective pitcher during his 13-year career, which included a seven-year stint in the AL East with the Orioles from 2012-2018 where he played alongside Zack Britton.

An All-Star in 2015, O’Day has made 604 career appearances in MLB with a 40-19 lifetime record and an impressive 2.51 ERA. In 19 games a season ago for Atlanta, O’Day went 4-0 with a 1.10 ERA while limiting batters to a .136 average.

With the departure of Adam Ottavino to the Red Sox this week, O’Day will be right in the thick of things in the Yankees bullpen for the 2021 season as he looks to continue his strong track record of big-league success.
