The New York Yankees have reportedly signed right-handed reliever Matt Bowman to a two-year minor league contract, per Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Bowman, 29, underwent Tommy John surgery in September and could earn $900,000 if he makes the Majors in either 2021 or 2022.
Originally drafted by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2012 MLB Draft, Bowman has made 183 appearances on the mound for the Cardinals (2016-18) and Reds (2019) with a 7-13 record and a career ERA of 4.02.
Bowman has compiled 149 strikeouts over 181 1/3 innings in the big leagues and posted a career-best 129 ERA+ with Cincinnati last season.
Back in college at Princeton University, Bowman was a teammate of Yankees first baseman (and former college pitcher) Mike Ford from 2011 to 2012.
The Yankees still have an opening on their 40-man roster as they work to make more personnel moves this winter with free agents like DJ LeMahieu, Masahiro Tanaka and James Paxton hitting the market this offseason.
