Derek Jeter becomes 'Mr. November' today in 2001

In the fourth game of the 2001 World Series between the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks, Hall of Famer Derek Jeter came through with one of his most clutch home runs ever to even the Series at two games apiece.

With the game beginning on Halloween night, extra innings forced proceedings into the next calendar month as The Captain came to bat in the bottom of the 10th against D-Backs reliever Byung-Hyun Kim with two outs.

What came next was a 9-pitch battle capped off by an opposite-field solo blast for No. 2, and a thunderous wave of applause from the raucous Yankee Stadium crowd.

It was Jeter's ninth career postseason home run and his only blast of the 2001 postseason, but the Yankees shortstop ended up finishing his career with 20 playoff homers, the third-most all-time.

As most fans know, the 2001 Series did not ultimately tip in the Yankees' favor (thanks, Luis), but Jeter's electric moment lit up the Bronx for one unforgettable November morning, and it all went down on this day in 2001.
