The New York Yankees announced Thursday that they have signed right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn to a Major League contract and have added him to the active roster.

Blackburn, 31, has gone 0-3 with one save and a 6.85 ERA (23.2IP, 31H, 19R/18ER, 8BB, 18K, 3HR) in seven games (four starts) with the New York Mets this season. He was designated for assignment by the Mets on Aug. 16 and released on Aug. 19.

Over parts of nine Major League seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2017-24) and New York Mets (2024-25), Blackburn has gone 22-31 with one save and a 4.96 ERA (452.0IP, 501H, 259R/249ER, 140BB, 347K, 59HR) in 93 career games (86 starts). The right-handed pitcher was named an American League All-Star with the Athletics in 2022.

The Antioch, Calif., native was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (56th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Blackburn was acquired by the Seattle Mariners along with INF Daniel Vogelbach from Chicago-NL in exchange for LHP Mike Montgomery and RHP Jordan Pries on July 20, 2016. He was then acquired by the Athletics from Seattle in exchange for INF Danny Valencia on Nov. 12, 2016. Blackburn was acquired by the New York Mets from Oakland in exchange for RHP Kade Morris on July 30, 2024.

To make room on the active roster, the Yankees optioned RHP Allan Winans to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
