Ottavino pitched for the Yankees in 2019 and 2020 and again in 2025. The first player in Yankees history to wear No. 0, he is also the only pitcher to record seasons with more than 65 appearances with a sub-2.10 ERA for both the Yankees and the New York Mets.
In his first season in the Bronx, Ottavino went 6-5 with two saves, a career best 1.90 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 73 relief appearances. He tied for third in the AL in relief appearances, that year and tied for the fourth-most scoreless outings in the Majors (tied for second-most in the AL).
In addition to his seasons with the Yankees, Ottavino pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals (2010), Colorado Rockies (2012-18), Boston Red Sox (2021) and New York Mets (2022-24). He pitched in 727 games in his 14-year MLB career, recording a career ERA of 3.48 with 862 strikeouts.
Born in Manhattan, New York, Ottavino moved at a young age to Park Slope, Brooklyn. After attending Berkley Carroll School in Park Slope and later Northeastern University, the right-hander was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round (30th overall) in the 2006 MLB Draft. He made his Major League debut as a starter in 2010 with the Cardinals. He spent 2011 in the minor leagues with the Memphis Redbirds before being claimed off waivers by the Rockies in 2012, where he transitioned into a relief pitcher.
Ottavino pitched for Team Italy in the 2009 World Baseball Classic and for Team USA in the 2023 event.
