
The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Keynan Middleton from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league RHP Juan Carela.
Middleton, 29, has gone 2-2 with two saves and a 3.96 ERA (36.1IP, 33H, 17R/16ER, 16BB, 47K, 7HR) in 39 relief appearances this season. Over seven Major League seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2017-20), Seattle Mariners (2021), Arizona Diamondbacks (2022) and Chicago White Sox (2023), he has gone 10-8 with 15 saves and a 4.00 ERA (180.0IP, 169H, 88R/80ER, 78BB, 182K, 28HR) in 193 Major League games (one start). The Portland, Ore., native was originally selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
Carela, 21, has gone 2-4 with a 3.67 ERA (83.1IP, 65H, 40R/34ER, 32BB, 109K, 7HR) in 17 games (16 starts) with High-A Hudson Valley this season. The right-handed pitcher has gone 12-20 with a 4.79 ERA (264.2IP, 220H, 173R/141ER, 136BB, 319K, 20HR) in 64 games (56 starts) over parts of four minor league seasons in the Yankees organization (2019, ‘21-23). The Samaná, D.R., native was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2018.
