The marriage certificate of Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe's short-lived wedlock has been sold for $122,500.
The nine-month marriage between the two iconic figures took place on January 14, 1954 in San Francisco, California, just three years following DiMaggio's retirement from the Yankees.
Goldin Auctions, who has previously sold other DiMaggio memorabilia, sold this document after purchasing it from a private collector who obtained it in 2006 from a DiMaggio estate auction. The document was described as being in "very good condition with just light toning to the edges."
Founder and CEO of Goldin Auctions Ken Goldin claimed that this document "is a historic document that ties together the golden age of Hollywood and baseball royalty… it is an important piece of American history showing the marriage of the most popular baseball player of the era to the most popular actress perhaps of all time."
