After spending one collegiate season at Stanford University (2020-21), the Lancaster, Calif., native was selected with the 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans before his draft rights were traded to Memphis. Prior to beginning his collegiate career, Williams was one of the most decorated high school prospects in the class of 2020 as a consensus five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American honoree.

Brooklyn acquired Diakite in a trade with the New York Knicks on July 6.
