BROOKLYN – The Brooklyn Nets have acquired guard Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first round draft pick and second round draft picks in 2027 and 2029 from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Kyrie Irving and forward Markieff Morris.

Dorian is an experienced wing who brings perimeter shooting and defensive versatility to our group. Together, the two players will fit seamlessly with our roster and provide the team with proven veteran talent.”
Dinwiddie (6’5”, 215) rejoins Brooklyn after previously spending five seasons (2016-21) with the franchise. The 29-year-old appeared in 53 games (all starts) with Dallas this season, recording averages of 17.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists in a career-high 34.1 minutes per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field, a career-high 40.5 percent from 3-point range and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line. In 440 games (237 starts) with Dallas (2022-23), Washington (2021-22), Brooklyn (2016-21) and Detroit (2014-16), Dinwiddie holds career averages of 13.6 points on 41.8 percent shooting from the field, 33.6 percent shooting from long range and 79.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line, 3.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 27.3 minutes per contest. He has also appeared in 24 career playoff games (three starts) over three postseason appearances with Dallas (2022), Brooklyn (2019) and Detroit (2016), averaging 13.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 26.4 minutes per game. Dinwiddie helped lead Dallas to the Western Conference Finals in the 2022 NBA Playoffs, posting averages of 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 27.8 minutes per game in 18 contests. His best NBA season to date came in Brooklyn in 2019-20, when he set career highs in points per game (20.6) and assists per game (6.8) in 64 appearances and helped lead the Nets to a postseason berth. In 274 games (132 starts) in his five seasons in Brooklyn, Dinwiddie averaged 14.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 27.8 minutes per contest. The California native was crowned the Taco Bell Skills Challenge champion at NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles as a Net in 2018 and was a finalist for the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award in the same year. He then participated in the Skills Challenge for a second time for Brooklyn at All-Star Weekend in Chicago in 2020. Dinwiddie first joined the Nets as a free agent on Dec. 8, 2016, after a stint with the Windy City Bulls of the NBA G League and re-signed with Brooklyn on a multi-year contract on Dec. 14, 2018. He was originally selected with the 38th overall pick (second round) in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons after a three-year career (2011-14) at the University of Colorado.
Finney-Smith (6’7”, 220) joins Brooklyn after spending the first six-plus seasons (2016-23) of his career with Dallas, where he recorded averages of 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 27.8 minutes per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from 3-point range and 72.1 percent from the free-throw line. Finney-Smith has appeared in and started 40 games this season, registering averages of 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 32.2 minutes per contest. Across the first five seasons (2016-21) of his career, the Portsmouth, Va., native increased his points per game and 3-point percentage, becoming the first player in NBA history (since the 3-point line was first introduced in the 1979-80 season) to improve his points per game and 3-point percentage in each season over a five-season stretch. He then extended the NBA record to six straight seasons when he averaged a career-high 11.0 points per game and shot a career-best 39.5 percent from 3-point range last season. The 29-year-old has also appeared in 31 playoff games across three trips to the postseason (each of the last three seasons), improving upon his career regular season statistics by averaging 11.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals in 37.1 minutes per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from distance and 73.5 percent from the free-throw line. In the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Finney-Smith helped lead Dallas to the Western Conference Finals by recording averages of 11.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 38.2 minutes per contest in 18 games. After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, Finney-Smith signed as a free agent with the Mavericks after a summer league stint with the franchise. Prior to beginning his NBA career, he spent the final three years (2013-16) of his collegiate career at the University of Florida, earning All-SEC Second Team honors in his junior and senior seasons. Finney-Smith spent his freshman season (2011-12) at Virginia Tech, securing ACC All-Freshman Team honors.
Irving appeared in 143 games in three-plus seasons (2019-23) with the Nets after signing as a free agent with the team on July 7, 2019, registering averages of 27.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 35.8 minutes per game.
Morris signed as a free agent with the Nets on Sept. 7, 2022, and appeared in 27 games this season, recording averages of 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 10.6 minutes per contest.
