NEW YORK – The Associated Press announced on Tuesday that New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu has been selected to the 2023 All-AP Second Team.
Fresh off a breakout, All-WNBA Second-Team 2022 season, Ionescu averaged 17.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game in 2023––the only player league-wide to average at least 16 points, five rebounds and five assists per game this season.
Pacing the three-point record books in both efficiency and volume, Sabrina’s 44.8% three-point field goal percentage set a new WNBA single-season record (min. 200 three-point field goal average). On September 7, she broke the WNBA all-time single-season threes record, eclipsing Diana Taurasi’s previous 17-year-old record of 121 three-pointers from 2006; ultimately finishing the season with 128 makes across 36 contests.
Additionally, Ionescu’s +11.5% improvement in three-point shooting percentage (from 33.3% in 2022) was the largest single-season three-point percentage increase in WNBA history (min. 150 three-point field goal average in both seasons).
This award marks the fourth-year guard’s second career and consecutive All-AP honor.
