BROOKLYN – The Brooklyn Nets selected forward Noah Clowney with the 21st pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, guard/forward Dariq Whitehead with the 22nd pick in the first round and forward Jalen Wilson with the 51st overall pick in the second round.
Clowney (6’10”, 210) played at the University of Alabama for one year (2022-23), recording averages of 9.8 points on 48.6 percent shooting from the field, 7.9 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 25.4 minutes per game across 36 total games (all starts). The 18-year-old Clowney, who finished fifth in the Southeastern Conference in rebounds per game, secured All-SEC Freshman Team honors after his lone season with the Crimson Tide. Prior to beginning his collegiate career, the Spartanburg, S.C., native was rated as the top prep player in South Carolina.
Whitehead (6’7”, 220) spent one year (2022-23) at Duke University, registering averages of 8.3 points on 42.1 percent shooting from the field, 42.9 percent shooting from 3-point range and 79.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line, 2.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 20.6 minutes per game in 28 total games (seven starts). The 18-year-old Whitehead’s 3-point percentage ranked as the fifth-best for a freshman in program history. In two NCAA Tournament games, Whitehead recorded averages of 10.5 points on 61.5 percent shooting from the field and 62.5 percent shooting from distance and 3.0 rebounds in 28.0 minutes per contest. Prior to beginning his collegiate career, the Newark, N.J., native attended Montverde Academy in Florida, where he earned Naismith High School Player of the Year honors as a senior en route to becoming one of the most decorated players in his high school class.
Wilson (6’8”, 225) spent four years (2019-23) at the University of Kansas, appearing in 104 total games (89 starts) and recording averages of 14.2 points on 43.4 percent shooting from the field, 31.6 percent shooting from 3-point range and 73.2 percent shooting from the free-throw line, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 30.7 minutes per game. The 22-year-old Wilson was named a consensus All-America First Team selection and earned Big 12 Player of the Year honors following a redshirt junior season in which he averaged 20.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 35.4 minutes per contest across 36 games (all starts). As a redshirt sophomore, the Denton, Texas, native helped lead the Jayhawks to a national championship while also securing All-Big 12 Third Team honors.
